Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)
The Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) role involves monitoring to ensure that site-based construction activities are delivered in a manner that protects and enhances biodiversity. The ECoW will monitor works to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, planning conditions and any associated documents, e.g. Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP). The ECoW also pro-actively identifies and resolves ecological issues that may arise throughout works and ensures the workforce are aware of their responsibilities. This ensures projects proceed in accordance with their project plan, and therefore reducing risks and delays.
AVRIO has extensive experience of providing ECoW services across a range of sectors and projects with varying scopes. Experienced ecologists carry all ECoW works out with an excellent understanding of the construction environment as well as all relevant legislation. Our approach is to ensure that sensitive environmental site issues are identified early and managed according to good practice guidelines, whilst recognising the need to progress within the required timescales.
We recognise that effective communication is vital to project success and have extensive experience in effectively liaising with statutory bodies, site contractors and project managers to achieve successful and practical outcomes. Working in conjunction with developers and their contractors, we act in an independent capacity, undertaking compliance monitoring and providing good practice advice and guidance.
