Derrygonnelly Ecological Statement
Services Provided: AVRIO was engaged by the client to provide ecological and environmental services for the proposed development, including the erection of a replacement dwelling and domestic garage located in Derrygonnelly, Co. Fermanagh. The services provided by Avrio include:
- Completed a biodiversity checklist that allowed the identification of potential biodiversity issues and the consideration of any necessary follow-up actions.
- An ecological evaluation was necessary due to the site’s proximity to an ancient woodland and the presence of an old stone structure on site.
- As part of the Ecological Assessment, a Phase 1 habitat survey was carried out to determine the ecological significance of the site’s habitats and if any loss of habitat will have an impact on protected wildlife and plants that might inhabit the site.
- The site was surveyed in accordance with standard guidance produced by JNCC, BCT, NIEA, and CIEEM for habitats, bats (preliminary survey only), badgers, otters, and breeding birds.
- A preliminary roost assessment (PRA) was completed on the building and trees on site, the building was classified as having Low Bat Roost Potential (BRP). To comply with Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) guidelines, a single emergence/re-entry survey is scheduled to occur between May and August before demolition.
- Recommendations were provided on how to enhance biodiversity within the development by planting native trees and hedgerows to compensate for the scrub lost.
- Best Practice guidelines were also provided on pollution prevention on site.
