An invasive species is a non-native species that spreads from the point of introduction and becomes abundant. Invasive species are populations of species whose impact can adversely alter their new environment causing ecological, environmental, or economic damage.

Invasive species can have a significant impact on people, wildlife, and the environment through posing risks to human health, out-competing native species, and the destruction of habitats. The presence of invasive species on a site can be a great concern to a prospective developer due to the potential cost of remediation. Current legislation means that landowners and developers are responsible for ensuring that any invasive species which are on their property do not spread outside the boundary.

At AVRIO, our ecologists are vastly experienced in the identification of invasive species such as Japanese knotweed and giant hogweed. Our ecologists routinely prepare management plans and on-site ecological clerk of works (ECoW) for the appropriate treatment and management of invasive species. We provide advice on suitable approaches for invasive species remediation, which can take into account the project programme, and aim to minimise time and costs.
