Technology Procurement & Cost-Benefit Analysis
Procurement is the series of activities and procedures necessary to acquire goods, services or works from an external source. The procurement process is used to ensure the buyer/client receives goods, services, or works at the most competitive price when aspects such as quality, quantity and time are compared. At AVRIO, we focus our procurement process on acquiring technology, services and works that will have a lower impact on the environment and human health, while still being high on quality and competitive on price.
As part of the procurement process, we use economic analysis methods such as cost benefit analysis. A cost benefit analysis is a systematic approach to estimating all the costs involved and the possible profits and savings to be derived from a business opportunity or proposal. The model is built by identifying the benefits of an action as well as the associated costs and subtracting the cost from the benefit. When completed, a cost benefit analysis will provide concrete results that can be used to develop reasonable conclusions around the feasibility and advisability of a decision or situation. This assessment can also be used to offer a baseline for comparing various projects and determining which projects benefits are greater than its costs and most suitable for the clients needs.
Technology Development, Validation, Application & Commissioning
Technology development entails working with a client to define what is needed in the first instance. A review of all the requirements would be carried out based on existing knowledge of the current and future processes. Once the requirements are set, the process of research is undertaken. Such research would require an investigation of various technologies, services and works that can achieve the requirements. The research will be carried out using various information sources, industry contacts, and drawing on personal, professional experience within the industry. Figuring out how the new technology, services and works will fit into an existing design if applicable, may involve reconfiguration of processes to ensure requirements are met.
Once the design phase is completed technology review and analysis can be carried out. This process is often the most important phase. Allowing an adequate time period for this phase is vital to ensure reputable results. A test plan would be developed and implemented with identifiable goals put in place to analyse if the technologies, services and works will achieve the requirements sought.
Validation confirms competent technology, services, and works can be incorporated into the complete system solution. That system performance and operation are met under anticipated operating scenarios. Data gathered would be analysed in detail to determine whether targets can be met under realistic operating conditions.
Application and Commissioning is the process of assuring that all systems and components of technology has been designed, installed, tested, operated and maintained according to the operational requirements of the client. Commissioning activities in the broader sense apply to all phases of the project from the basic and detailed design, procurement, construction and installation until the final handover to the client, in some cases this process will include an assisted operational phase.
Lean, Green & Best Practice Principles
Lean manufacturing provides organisations with the tools to improve their competitiveness based on increasing value to customers, in terms of productivity, efficiency, quality and costumers’ satisfaction, by reducing resource consumption and maximising process efficiency.
Lean tools and techniques help companies address competitiveness issues and build the capability to identify problems that take an innovative approach to improvements in operations and services as well as understanding the importance of building environmental and sustainable best practices into the workplace.
In order to be able to achieve sustainable results, the implementation of green practices should also be considered. Green practices are focused on reducing hazardous emissions, getting rid of the consumption of wasteful resources, recycling, and minimising health risks throughout the entire process, by minimising the environmental footprint during the whole product or process life cycle. To implement green practices would be showing a commitment to moving towards a more sustainable process.
To combine lean, green, and best practice principles can be a complex and challenging task to take on by yourself. AVRIO have experience in the development and implementation of these practices throughout various industrial sectors and facilities alike. AVRIO would take over this responsibility from the client and would develop and help implement practices and processes that are individually client and process specific.
